Commander Defence Force, Commodore Dr. Raymond King attended a brief prefect installation ceremony at the Stephen Dillet Primary School on Friday 28, January 2022.At the ceremony Commander Defence Force engaged the students by informing them of their roles as prefects which includes being a student leader, assisting teachers with the smooth operations of the school and to motivate students to abide by the school rules. He encouraged them saying “Hence, you are entrusted with daily responsibilities and duties geared towards the efficient and effective running of the school particularly during the period of COVID transmission.”Sharing his personal experience as prefect, he noted that he did not achieve this feat until he attended senior high school due his tardiness in reaching to school late because of his newspaper routine, therefore achieving this at the primary level is an accomplishment in itself. Taking on this new responsibility would not be easy, Commodore King prompted the students of expectations for them which included reliability, respectfulness and responsibility. Maturity, character and behavior are the basic criteria for prefect selection, he added, which meant that each awardee would have displayed these characteristics in some outstanding way.In concluding his address to the students he placed emphasis on the significance of leadership opportunities, noting that prefects should assist teachers with the running of the schools program, while the school faculty undertakes the planning organization of activities; and reminded them that they are being entrusted with control of the school’s activities and providing feedback to teachers and becoming potential leadership positions in corporate civil society and productive citizens. As a parting gift, the students were presented with a Challenge Coin In honour of their accomplishments and challenge to fulfill their commitments as prefects.
