Each year, we join the US Embassy Nassau, Defence officials and American family members to pay tribute to the ten U.S. Navy Sailors who perished off Nassau’s shores as part of a military anti-submarine exercise on May 7th, 1954, and to two Bahamian U.S. military Service members: Sergeant Errol McKinney, U.S. Army, who was killed in a motorcycle accident on September 28th, 2013, just 13 days after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan, and Private First Class Norman Darling, U.S. Army, killed along with seven other Soldiers on April 29th, 2004, when a vehicle approached their patrol and detonated an explosive device just south of Baghdad, Iraq.
A moment of silence was observed and a wreath was laid at sea by US Embassy Marines on board RBDF Safe Boat P-133 Coxswained by FCPO Mr. Duane Mackey of the Harbour Patrol Unit.
May we never forget ALL who selflessly gave their lives in the service of their nation.
