Cuban Migrants Apprehended

In a joint effort between the United States Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, seven (7) Cuban migrants were retrieved off Guninchos Cay yesterday.The Defence Force Operations Department upon receiving information of an aerial sighting from the US Coast Guard, dispatched Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Bahamas, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Sidney Whymms to the area to investigate. On arrival to the area, seven (7) male migrants were discovered and taken onboard the Defence Force patrol vessel. Presently, a search continues in the surrounding area for additional persons. The migrants, who all appeared to be in good health will be transported to the capital on completion of the search efforts, where they will be turned over to Immigration authorities for further processing. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to execute its duties through valuable regional partnerships that aid in apprehension exercises and remains committed to the preservation of territorial integrity and guarding our heritage.
