Twenty-three (23) suspected Cuban refugees were apprehended in Bahamian waters by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on November 18, 2022.His Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Kamalamee under the command of Lieutenant Blair Bethel upon receiving intel from United States Coast Guard was dispatched to investigate and intercepted the refugees 1.55nm off Anguilla Cay. The twenty-three (23) refugees consisting of eighteen (18) males and five (5) females, who all appeared to be in good health, were transported to Freeport, Grand Bahama and handed over to the relevant authorities. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains vigilant in defending the territorial integrity of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas by enforcing the strategic plans set forth by Commander Defence Force.
