The Royal Bahamas Defence Force held a brief farewell ceremony on August 27 at HMBS Coral Harbour for Chief Petty Officer Daniel Miller, who retired after 33 years of service.

Chief Petty Officer Miller enlisted as a Marine Recruit on June 24, 1985 along with 50 male recruits. He successfully rose through the enlisted corps to achieve the rate of Chief Petty Officer (CPO).

On Monday August 27, CPO Miller disembarked HMBS Coral Harbour for the final time in his illustrious career as a senior enlisted member of the Force. Prior to his departure, a special ceremony was held during morning colors at the Coral Harbour Base.

At the ceremony, Commander Michael Sweeting, the Base Executive Officer, expressed his gratitude and best wishes on behalf of the Officers and Marines of Coral Harbour Base to CPO Miller. He assured those in attendance that the Defence Force has benefited tremendously because of the contributions of CPO Miller.

Senior Lieutenant Gordon Roberts, Acting Deputy Base Engineering Officer brought remarks on behalf of the Base Engineering Officer. He thanked CPO Miller for his dedicated services over the years to the Defence Force, and wished him well on his transition. Miller was afterwards given a chorus of three cheers from the Officers and Marines present.

In giving his remarks, Chief Petty Officer Miller thanked the Defence Force for allowing him the opportunity to serve his country over the years. He stated that retirement for everybody is imminent, something he has graciously prepared himself for and encouraged those in attendance to prepare for it. He assured members that although he is retiring, he will continue to assist the organization where needed.
