Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) personnel attached to Royal Bahamas Defence Force Southern Command came to the assistance of the local community in Inagua early this morning to extinguish a fire, which destroyed a single dwelling house.

After receiving information of a house on fire, HMBS Matthew Town detachment, led by Lieutenant Sidney Whyms, went to assess the situation. On seeing that a single story wooden structure was ablaze, the Defence Force personnel along with members of the Police Force and the local Inagua community immediately fought the fire.

By using equipment to assist in controlling the fire and providing boundary cooling, the fire was prevented from causing any further damage. This was done until fire trucks and additional equipment arrived with personnel from Morton Bahamas Ltd. and from the United States Coast Guard. The fire was contained and extinguished.

No one was at home at the time, and the situation was turned over to the Police department for further investigations.
