United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral Scott A. Buschman, paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force (Acting) Captain Tellis Bethel on Tuesday past. The highly decorated officer serves as the Commander of the Coast Guard’s Seventh District based in Miami, Florida.

The purpose of the visit was to present a letter of commendation from the United States Coast Guard thanking Captain Bethel and the members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for their mutual assistance securing shared borders. He congratulated the Commanding Officer, Acting Lieutenant Commander Granville Adderley, the officers and crewmembers of Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Rolly Gray for the successful apprehension of a go-fast vessel with 26 Cuban migrants on board just off South Andros on 26 October 2016. The Defence Force craft was able to maneuver in the rough waters through treacherous shoals during this apprehension exercise.

Also attending the meeting was Captain Clyde Sawyer, the Commanding Officer of the Defence Force’s main Base and Central Command. Captain Bethel and Rear Admiral Buschman also discussed matters of mutual interest that was followed by a brief tour of Coral Harbour Base to view damages sustained as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Rear Admiral Buschman also viewed several construction projects aligned with the Sandy Bottom Project that are currently underway.

At the conclusion of the visit, Rear Admiral Bushman presented Captain Bethel with the letter of commendation for collaborative efforts between the Defence Force and the US Coast Guard.
