The fight against illicit activities received a boost with the official contract signing for The Bahamas Unmanned Aerial System (BUAS) at the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Coral Harbour Base on Monday December 16, 2019.
The Permanent Secretary in the Minister of National Security, Mr. Eugene Poitier and President and CEO of Swift Tactical Systems, an American based company, signed contracts for the acquisition of drones which will enhance the Forces’ operational capabilities. Also in attendance were the Minister of National Security, the Honourable Marvin Dames; Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Minister of National Security; Acting Commander Defence Force Captain Raymond King; the various heads of Law Enforcement Agencies, and US Officials.
The 17 million dollars drones are part of the Ministry of National Security’s multi-agency Drone Program to combat illicit activities within the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It will include 55 short and medium range drones which will allow operators to have a bird’s eye view of targeted areas and to effectively assist in search and rescue efforts.
