Marine Seamen Ashton Williams and Johnny Rolle of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) were recognized for their outstanding performances and were thus chosen as Marines of the Quarter for the Abaco Deployment Team.
Both men, who are exceptional Marines, are members of the latest squad, New Entry 56 and Woman Entry 25. They were recognized for the period October – December 2019. In the midst of devastation, hardship and an ever uncertain environment, they have worked and exceeded expectations in the Galley section of the Supply Department.
According to Marine Seaman Rolle, “I never knew I would develop a passion for food preparation, but to also serve others in this capacity.”
Marine Seaman A. Williams said, “The Defence Force is a diverse organization, and I embrace all opportunities afforded to me to better myself and learn”. Both Marines understand that the provision of meals help bolster morale in all kinds of areas.
Shortly into their deployment both Marines were detailed to assist galley personnel. They were indoctrinated and cultured in the disciplines of culinary arts, food safety, food preparation, food service and overall cleanliness. Throughout their tenure attached to the Abaco Deployment, these marines worked around the clock without complaints.
Their daily tasks included preparing approximately 500 meals inclusive of breakfast and dinner for the contingent of Defence and Police personnel stationed in Abaco, and also dignitaries from the office of the Prime Minister, the Permanent Secretary and other government agencies.
Captain Raymond King, Acting Commander Defence Force, Commander Michael Simmons, Commanding Officer Northern Command and Commanding Officer Hurricane Relief (Abaco and Grand Bahama) along with the Officers, Senior Rates and Junior Rates salute Marine Seamen Johnny Rolle and Ashton Williams for their commendable contributions.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is committed to improving working conditions for its employees, as they continue to safeguard the territorial boundaries of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and impact overall nation building.
