Members and students of the Ship Mate Ltd. Summer Camp paid a courtesy call on Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Glenn McPhee in his Conference Room at HMBS Coral Harbour on 12 August.The two-week maritime summer camp hosted by Ship Mate Ltd. comprised of eight and ninth graders from various schools. Students were introduced to a variety of subject areas inclusive of Math, Basic First Aid, Navigation, and Meteorology combined with theoretical and practical aspects of Seamanship, Survival and Basic Firefighting techniques. To enhance the training experience, students were also offered swimming lessons to enable them to become safer swimmers.The group of young aspiring mariners were officially welcomed by Captain Coral Harbour where he imparted words of encouragement, charging them to continue to strive towards becoming a generation of leaders that would take the Bahamas forward and into the future. Captain McPhee also implored students to consider the Royal Bahamas Defence Force as a possible future career choice.Top achievers in the summer program, were presented with a copy of Captain Glenn McPhee’s book entitled “The Marine Recruit”, which is a comprehensive guide for aspiring RBDF marines. Awardees for most outstanding male and female was Tenauri Curry and Carynn Culmer. A gift of appreciation was also awarded to Captain McPhee and Force Chief Petty Officer Kermit Turnquest on behalf of Mr. Renaldo Johnson (Office Manager of Ship Mate Ltd.) and camp assistants, Omar Ferguson and Simone Johnson.The visit was finalized with a tour of the base where camp participants were afforded the opportunity to view the HMBS Flamingo monument, RBDF crafts, Engineering workshop, RBDF medical facility, Operations Command Center and Ship Simulator.
