A total of fourty-eight (48) suspected Haitian migrants were apprehended in separate incidents by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force within the past 48-hours.The first apprehension of thirty-eight (38) migrants was made possible by His Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Lignum Vitae, under the command of Lieutenant Owen Sands at 9:35am on Friday November 11th. The migrants, which were intercepted in a 28 ft. white American sailing vessel off Coakley Cay in the southern Exuma chain, were subsequently brought into the capital. During the second incident on Saturday November 12th, RBDF patrol craft Enduring Friendship P-128, under the command of Chief Petty Officer Onassis Ferguson, apprehended a group of ten (10) migrants on a fishing vessel off Coakley Cay. They all appeared to be in good health and were also brought to the capital. The migrants were all turned over to the relevant authorities for further processing.
