In celebration of Youth Month this October, members of the National Youth Guard (NYG) Cohorts 2 and 3 proudly participated in the Chick Charney Challenge at iDiscover Park, an event organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. This thrilling adventure showcased not only the physical endurance of the young participants but also the dedication of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) to youth development through their role as NYG training instructors.
Led by Chief Petty Officer Micheal Wring, both cohorts faced a series of challenges, including rope climbing, wall climbing, leopard crawling, and axe throwing. With grit and determination, Cohort 2 surged ahead, displaying impressive teamwork and strategy, securing a 1st place victory. Cohort 3, equally determined, fought hard to earn a commendable 3rd place finish, with both groups displaying resilience, precision, and camaraderie, particularly during the axe throwing challenge, where accuracy was key.
The NYG, a critical program that equips young Bahamians with essential life-saving skills in disaster preparedness, meteorology, firefighting, first aid, and leadership. The program is designed to develop responsible, community-oriented individuals who are ready to serve The Bahamas, especially in times of national emergencies. This mission is significantly supported by the RBDF, whose Marines play an integral role in the training and mentorship of NYG members. Captain Sonia Miller is currently the RBDF lead for the National Youth Guard.
In alignment with our commitment to “The Pursuit of Excellence in Guarding Our Heritage,” the RBDF, under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, remains steadfast in its mission to foster the development of our nation. We strive to actively contribute to youth programs that instill qualities of discipline, leadership, and determination, empowering the next generation to become exemplary corporate citizens.
