Coral Harbour Base, 05 JAN. ’19 (RBDF): A total of 108 Haitian migrants were apprehended by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force early Saturday morning. This latest apprehension is the result of air, land and sea operations in the southern New Providence, Exuma chain and Tongue of the ocean areas. The migrants were intercepted aboard a wooden sloop in waters south of New Providence. Patrol craft P-125 coxswained by Petty Officer Brian Anderson intercepted the 40 – ft. sail sloop at 8:00 a.m. They were assisted by assets from the Harbour Unit and HMBS Lignum Vitae. The migrants- 92 Males and 16 females were escorted to the Defence Force Base and handed over to Immigration authorities for further investigation. A total of 302 Haitian migrants have been apprehended thus far for the year. Patrols are ongoing in the southern Bahamas. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is committed to protecting the sovereignty of The Bahamas.
