DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS, 7 MAY. ‘23 (RBDF): An ongoing search for a missing boater is being conducted by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police Marine Division and United States Coast Guard and Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT), following a boating incident which resulted in a man being thrown overboard.
At approximately 9:15pm on May 6, 2023 the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Command Center received report from the Police Control Room that the incident occurred between Chub Cay and Little Whale Cay, involving two boaters.
Reports indicate that a young man fell from the vessel, and was then assisted by another individual, who jumped into the water. Attempts to locate the missing individual was unsuccessful.
Shortly thereafter two local vessels in the area conducted search efforts in areas of Little Whale Cay, Bird Cay, Chub Cay and surrounding areas until midnight. However due to inclement weather search efforts were resumed at daylight.
In efforts to further assist, an RBDF air asset was dispatched to canvass the Chub Cay and Lil Whale Cay area. The United States Coast Guard and OPBAT officials have reached out to lend assistance for the missing boater. At this time there are no sightings.
