A disabled vessel with two (2) occupants onboard is enroute to Grand Bahama after a joint effort by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the United States Coast Guard safely rescued them on Friday night.
The RBDF Operations Center was alerted of a distressed vessel approximately 40 nautical miles north of West End Grand Bahama. HMBS LIGNUM VITAE under the command of Sub Lieutenant Miska Clarke, responded immediately to assist in the rescue efforts.
The 37-ft Sport fishing vessel, which was experiencing mechanical problems and adrift, was initially spotted by the US Coast Guard Cutter FLYING FISH, which was in the area. Both of the occupants were in fair health when they were rescued.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of The Bahamas and assisting those in need.
