A joint rescue operation between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the United States Coast Guard resulted in the rescue of three Bahamians at sea on Sunday past.
The three men were at sea when their vessel ran out of fuel Sunday evening. A cruise ship spotted the boat adrift west of Cat Island and reported it to the US Coast Guard, who in turn informed Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos. The RBDF was informed and deployed a patrol craft to assist the vessel. A US fixed wing aircraft out of Florida located the vessel and vectored the RBDF vessel to its position. RBDF patrol craft P-125, coxswained by Petty Officer Brian Anderson, found the vessel approximately 14 miles east of Farmers Cay, Exuma, where it towed the vessel to safety.
