The Royal Bahamas Defence Force assisted in the rescue of thirteen passengers on board a disabled vessel on Saturday past after their vessel experienced mechanical problems.

The passengers – 8 Canadians and 5 Bahamian males left Cabbage Beach in a 25-ft Boston Whaler on Friday April 6th around 1:30 pm enroute to Pig Beach in the Exumas. After they had not reached their destination, a concerned relative informed Police and Defence authorities early Saturday morning.

The Defence Force immediately deployed its seagoing patrol craft along with one of its aircraft to assist in the search of the overdue vessel. While searching for the vessel, a local fisherman spotted the boat on Saturday afternoon and took the passengers aboard his vessel and informed the Defence Force.

The Defence Force patrol craft P-129 later rendezvoused with the fishing vessel, embarked the passengers, and escorted the distressed vessel to the Defence Force Harbour Unit. All of the individuals were found to be safe, in fair health, and handed over to Police and Port Department officials for further investigation. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force takes pride in safe-guarding the sovereignty and heritage of the country.
