In a brief ceremony held onboard HMBS Coral Harbour Base, participants of the Force Recon Graduation Class of 03/24 were awarded certificates to commemorate their successful completion of this intensive training program, marking a significant milestone in their professional journeys. Along with them during the award ceremony Marine Seaman Floyd Bethel received his certificate for completing the Commando Course held in Jamaica earlier this year.
The course, which spanned 8 rigorous weeks from July 15th to September 6th, welcomed 18 participants from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), the Bahamas Department of Corrections (BDOCS), and the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF). Impressively, all 18 participants graduated, including two individuals from BDOCS and two from the RBPF.
The Force Recon course, a foundational level of training for Commando Squadron recruits, equips participants with essential skills and resilience required to excel in the demanding landscape of military operations. To participate, individuals had to meet strict physical standards and display a commitment to overcoming challenges. Success in the program was contingent upon consistent attendance, discipline, excelling in the Commando Squadron physical assessment, and completing a 12-mile speed march while carrying weaponry and a 40-pound load.
One notable aspect of the training was a segment conducted by the SWAT team of the RBPF, focusing on Ballistic Shields training. This segment introduced participants to the newly acquired shields by the RBDF, teaching them how to handle and carry the shields, use them in various formations, and understand their multiple applications and effectiveness in real-world scenarios.
The Commando Squadron Department, under the leadership of Commander Edward Fritz, remains committed to excellence in developing capable and dedicated personnel.
