Defence Headquarters, 5 MAY ‘23 (RBDF): Members of The Royal Bahamas Defence Force were amongst other Commonwealth Nations and Overseas Territories service members who traveled to London, UK to participate in the Coronation of King Charles III, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 6 May 2023. The Defence Force contingent led by Commander Natasha Miller and Media Relations by Commander Sonia Miller, comprise of three (3) Officers and eleven (11) Marines who departed New Providence on 26th April 2023.
While in the United Kingdom, the Defence Force contingent will participate in series of rehearsals events leading up to the Coronation Ceremony. Petty Officers Nivado Ferguson and Malisha Richardson were nominated to march alongside the Gold State Coach during the procession, giving them a highly prominent and visible role, while others will be marching as members of the Commonwealth and Overseas Territories contingent inclusive of Lieutenant Commander Edward Fritz.
During Media Day held at Pirbright Army Training Base on 4 May 2023, Major General Eldon Millar, Britain’s Defence Services Secretary presented the parade comprising of Commonwealth Nations and service members of Overseas Territories with commemorative coins for their participation in the King’s Coronation. The Major General thanked the contingent for not only being a part of such a prestigious and celebratory moment but also uniting as one to complete a common goal.
Also in attendance were various senior Commonwealth military officials, Defence Attachés and representatives from various media outlets across the world.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed to building local and international partnerships that help to diversify the organization.
