The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) deployed a 27-member Fire Support Team on March 29, 2025, to the island of Grand Bahama in response to a massive forest fire on the island. Led by Force Chief Petty Officer Garvin Dean, the team was composed of personnel from various specialized units such as the Crisis Risk Management Unit, Disaster Risk Management Unit, Safety Stores Unit, Fire and Rescue Unit, Commando Squadron, and Engineering Branch.

Upon arrival, team members were welcomed by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Commander Defence Force, senior police officers, and other government and local officials. Force Chaplain, Apostle Raymond Wells also met with the troops to provide upliftment.

Working alongside Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Javonne Richards and the Grand Bahama Police Fire Services, RBDF Marines supported firefighting efforts across several affected communities, including North and South Bahamia, Pinder’s Point Road, Sergeant Major Road, Seahorse Drive, East Sunrise, and Coral Road.

ASP Richards expressed profound gratitude for the Defence Force’s timely intervention, praising the team’s resilience, professionalism, and invaluable support. The team’s swift response played a vital role in protecting both private residences and government infrastructure, displaying their unwavering dedication and courage in the face of a national crisis.
