The Force Inspectorate Office, led by Captain Natasha Miller, made a significant donation to the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group on January 17, 2025. This initiative aligns with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s commitment to strengthening relationships with stakeholders and the community, as outlined in Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King’s strategic objective of fostering positive community relations as a socially responsible corporate citizen.

The all-female team at Defence Headquarters demonstrated their dedication by donating boxes of gripper needles, essential medical supplies for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This donation seeks to provide critical support to these patients by addressing key needs. By offering gripper needles free of charge, the initiative significantly reduces the financial burden on patients, ensuring they have access to vital medical supplies. It also promotes spiritual engagement, fostering hope and resilience among those undergoing treatment. Additionally, the donation helps to create a supportive environment where patients feel valued and cared for during their challenging journey.

The Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, established in 2020 by Dr. Charles Diggiss, Dr. Lockley Munroe, and Nurse Charlene McPhee, has been instrumental in providing financial, spiritual, and emotional support to individuals battling cancer. Mrs. Shantell Cox-Hutchinson, President of the organization, expressed her gratitude and emphasized the importance of regular screenings, highlighting that early detection is critical in the fight against breast cancer.

The Force Inspectorate Office also gained valuable insight into the challenges faced by breast cancer patients, noting the significant impact this partnership could have. Depending on the stage of cancer, patients may require one to three gripper needles per treatment. This donation has nearly doubled accessibility for patients, alleviating a critical need.

As the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to uphold its motto of Guarding Our Heritage this initiative underscores its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for breast cancer patients by providing essential tools and support during their treatment.
