The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Unit, in partnership with the RBDF Medical Facility, held a Breast Cancer Awareness Forum on October 22, 2024, at the RBDF Coral Harbour Base. The forum, designed for Officers and Marines, aimed to increase awareness about breast cancer while underscoring the critical importance of early detection, regular screenings, and proactive health management in the ongoing fight against the disease.
Medical experts led discussions on the severity of breast cancer, with a particular focus on the dangers of delayed diagnosis. They provided insights into the most common symptoms, the significance of clinical breast exams, and the pivotal role routine screenings play in prevention and early intervention.
A highlight of the event was Acting Force Chief Petty Officer Deann Davis’ powerful personal testimony. Having battled breast cancer herself, her story of resilience and triumph resonated deeply with attendees. She delivered an inspiring message of hope, emphasizing the necessity of prioritizing health, embracing preventive measures, and staying strong in the face of adversity.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains steadfast in its commitment to the health and well- being of its personnel while continuing its mission to safeguard the nation’s heritage. Through events like these, the RBDF not only upholds its duty of national defence but also fosters an environment of care, support, and community among its service members.
