On Monday, 29 June 2026, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) received information that a vessel was conducting illegal fishing in Bahamian waters. In response, Patrol Craft P-47 was deployed to investigate.
During the operation, P-47 intercepted and detained the Bahamian fishing vessel ‘GENEVA BRASS’ in the vicinity of Raccoon Cay, Ragged Island.
A search of the vessel revealed compressors, an unspecified quantity of fisheries product onboard. The vessel and its occupants were detained for suspected fisheries offences.
HMBS Madeira was subsequently deployed from Coral Harbour Base to escort the detained craft to New Providence. Upon arrival, the vessel, fisheries product, and all associated equipment were handed over to the Department of Marine Resources for further investigation and any subsequent prosecution.
