The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) officially commenced Health and Fitness Month activities with a 500-metre Swim Competition held at the waterside of HMBS Coral Harbour Base on Thursday, 13 March 2026.
The event marked the initial activity in a series of physical fitness initiatives scheduled throughout the month of March. Each activity is aimed at promoting physical readiness, resilience, and overall health & wellness among the Officers and Marines of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. Participants from across several departments gathered to test their endurance and aquatic proficiency in the individual swim challenge.
After a competitive showing by all participants, the following individuals emerged as the top finishers:
1st Place: Leading Seaman Leathone Horne – 8:53
2nd Place: Chief Petty Officer Omar Albury – 8:54
3rd Place: Senior Lieutenant Angelo Whitfield – 9:07
1st Place: Woman Marine Aliyeah Johnson – 10:08
2nd Place: Woman Marine Trenai Lafrance – 16:38
The competition demonstrated the high level of physical fitness maintained by RBDF personnel and reinforced the importance of aquatic proficiency as a core component of the Force’s operational readiness. As a maritime defence organisation, swimming competence remains an essential skill for personnel tasked with conducting operations at sea and responding to emergencies within the nation’s maritime domain.
The RBDF’s Health and Fitness Month activities will continue throughout March with additional events including a Mini Triathlon, Push-Up, Sit-Up and Pull-Up Competitions, culminating in a Health Fair, One-Mile Relay, and a Show of Strength event scheduled for early April.
Through initiatives such as these, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to encourage a culture of physical fitness, health & wellness, teamwork, discipline and esprit de corps. Royal Bahamas Defence Force under Commodore Moxey’s leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we remain committed to ensuring that we are physically prepared to Guard Our Heritage.
