The Royal Bahamas Defence Force congratulates Leading Seaman Jamie Rahming on his successful completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in International Rescue and Relief, with a minor in Global Community Development and Disaster Management, from Union Adventist University in Lincoln, Nebraska.
After four years of dedicated study, Leading Seaman Rahming graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors, demonstrating academic excellence while pursuing specialized training in disaster response, emergency management, and humanitarian assistance. His educational journey was fully funded by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force as part of the commitment to developing highly skilled personnel capable of supporting national, regional, and international emergency response efforts.
Throughout his studies, Leading Seaman Rahming gained valuable real-world experience by participating in disaster response operations associated with Hurricane Ian, an EF-3 tornado in Arkansas, and Hurricane Helene. These experiences provided him with firsthand exposure to emergency management operations and humanitarian relief efforts.
In addition to his academic studies, he completed intensive summer programs focused on survival techniques, search and rescue operations, missing person recovery, flood and swift-water rescue, and technical rope rescue. He also earned certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and in Psychological First Aid, enhancing his ability to provide both medical and emotional support during emergencies.
Leading Seaman Rahming further distinguished himself by obtaining multiple certifications through Rescue 3 International, including Rope Rescue Specialist, Confined Space Technician, Swift water Rescue Technician, and Advanced Wilderness EMT qualifications.
During the spring of 2025, he participated in an international field placement in Malawi, Africa, where he gained experience in clinical care, travel medicine, and tropical medicine. While there, he worked at Malamulo Adventist Hospital and the Dzaleka Refugee Camp, providing valuable support and gaining insight into humanitarian operations in developing regions.
Prior to returning home, Leading Seaman Rahming also met with the leadership of Nebraska Task Force One, one of the United States’ premier urban search and rescue teams. The engagement provided valuable professional insight into large-scale disaster response capabilities and best practices in emergency management.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, under Commodore Moxey’s leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization.
