Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Marines undertook a vital initiative to repair the roof of the Local Government Clinic in Matthew Town, demonstrating their commitment to community leadership and service. This essential project was led by Captain Michael Hanna, RBDF’s Regional Commander for the Southern Bahamas, and Warrant Officer Dwayne Ferguson, who oversaw the installation of new roofing tarp to address the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar on Monday October 21.
Prior to the hurricane, the clinic’s roof had already suffered compromise, but the recent storm exacerbated the situation, resulting in significant flooding within the facility. In response to this pressing need, the RBDF team worked diligently to install the new tarp, despite the steep incline of the roof and challenging weather conditions. Their efforts not only showcased their dedication but also helped restore some level of normalcy to the clinic while mitigating further water damage.
“This was a yeoman’s job by our Marines,” said Captain Hanna. “We are proud to serve our community and ensure that essential services like healthcare can continue, especially in times of need.”
While the installation of the tarp provides temporary relief, it is important to note that the roof requires official repair to ensure long-term sustainability. The RBDF remains committed to supporting the health and welfare of the community and will continue to advocate for necessary resources for the clinic’s permanent restoration.
