RBDF MIGRANT APPREHENSION

One hundred and twenty-two (122) suspected migrants were apprehended by Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Madeira east of north Eleuthera. After receiving information from United States Coast Guard (USCG) C130 of a suspicious vessel eighty-eight nautical miles Northeast of Governors Harbour where persons onboard were bailing water out of the vessel, HMBS Madeira and Enduring Friendship P-125 proceeded to further investigate the sighting. Upon arrival at the location, the situation was deemed unsafe and required intervention. Resultantly, ninety-seven (97) males, twenty-one (21) females, two (2) children, and two deceased persons were taken onboard HMBS Madeira. They are en route to Coral Harbour Base where they will be handed over to Immigration Officials for further processing.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains vigilant in defending the territorial integrity of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas by enforcing the strategic plans set forth by Commander Defense Force.
