Defence Headquarters, 21 AUG. ‘23 (RBDF): A select group of RBDF personnel, comprising four officers and one warrant officer, participated in the Practical Cyber Implementation Course, hosted aboard HMBS Coral Harbour Base’s Davy Franklyn Rolle Command Center.
This specialized course is tailored for military and security professionals and delves into the policies and practices essential for safeguarding critical data, networks, systems, and platforms. These assets, pivotal not only to military and security organizations but also to broader societal functions, including economic, social, governmental, and political activities.
Instructors highlighted the importance of civilian control in cybersecurity and its role in national security. The course equipped participants with the skills to identify a spectrum of influences shaping the cyber landscape, ranging from international to statutory factors. Attendees learned to apply established frameworks and best practices to develop processes for cyber strategic planning, emphasizing guidance development and the creation of metrics, procedures, and guidelines tailored for effective cyber operations, especially in international and interagency contexts.
A key component was addressing the challenges inherent in implementing cyber policies and practices. The course culminated in a practical CAPSTONE Exercise where participants crafted implementation plans and guidance specifically tailored to MOD/Armed Forces’ requirements. Topics ranged from understanding influencers to applying implementation frameworks, addressing execution challenges, and establishing control objectives and metrics. Attendees also honed their ability to develop sample guidance and standards for critical operational cyber focus areas. Throughout, the course instilled adaptability to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of cyber innovations.
