As part of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Dr. Raymond King’s strategic plans for the outreach throughout the communities and strengthening community relations, members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s SOUTHERN COMMAND joined with the local District Council to participate in a three-day series of events from Saturday, March 4th – Monday, March 6th 2023.In recognition of Local Government Month, marines deployed to the satellite bases at HMBS MATTHEW TOWN and HMBS GUNN POINT participated in simultaneous events on the respective islands that entailed a Fun, Run and Walk event, Church Service and Flag Raising Ceremony.On Saturday morning, a Fun, Run and Walk was held, with Force Chief Petty Officer Phillip Major securing a gold medal. On Sunday morning, personnel at HMBS MATTHEW TOWN attended a church service at Deliverance Household of Faith Ministries, and members attached to HMBS GUNN POINT attended service at the Holy Innocents Anglican Church. The festivities concluded with a Flag Raising Ceremony held on Monday March 6, 2023. Captain Michael Hanna, who serves as the Force’s SOUTHERN COMMAND Officer commended the troops for their participation, as they continue to enhance positive relations with the communities.The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed to the pursuit of excellence as the Officers and Marines continue to Guard our Heritage.
