Coral Harbour Base, 01 DEC. ‘18 (RBDF): The Supply Department of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force put smiles on the faces of residents in the western end of the capital on Thursday morning by providing hot breakfast for them.
Leading the initiative was Senior Lieutenant Elvis Bullard, the Assistant Base Supply Officer, on behalf of Lieutenant Commander Whitfield Neely, the Commanding Officer of the department. He, along with his staff took to the Gambier Community and served hot breakfast and gave away an assortment of clothing items to the residents.
Vice-President of the Gambier Primary School, Mrs. Naomi Pinder was elated that the Officers and Marines were able to provide students and staff with their meals as they arrived at school. The men and and women also delivered breakfast to the physically disabled within the community.
“From the faces of all who participated, they really enjoyed the breakfast and the clothing that were given out”, said Mrs. Pinder. “I myself had breakfast. This was a first and we are truly appreciative of the kind gesture by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force”.
Chief Petty Officer Paulette Higgs, who coordinated the efforts, said that with the cooperation of the entire supply department, they were able to make somebody’s day brighter. The Defence Force has partnered with the Gambier Primary school with several initiatives in the past years, and it hopes to continue the bond of friendship with both the school and the community.
Throughout the year members of the Defence Force engage in various annual community projects. These projects are undertaken by individual groups of members who had graduated from recruit training together. This is one of many ways in which Defence Force members serve our communities.
