The third contingent of Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) personnel were officially welcomed home following the successful completion of their deployment to the Republic of Haiti in support of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), formerly known as the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), with personnel from Kenya, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Canada.

For four months, the contingent served diligently alongside international partners and the Haitian National Police in significant roles such as, administration, discipline, maritime advisory support and operational coordination as part of an expanded mission to combat gang violence and strengthen security in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

Amid cheers and emotional reunions as proud family members, colleagues and dignitaries welcomed the contingent, Commander Alexis Brown, in his remarks on behalf of the contingent, shared that “Operating in a complex environment strengthened our commitment to cooperation, professionalism, and service.” “The team and I reflect with great pride on what was accomplished alongside our international partners and Haitian counterparts. The experience and partnerships developed during this mission will continue to guide our work as the international community aligns efforts in support of Haiti’s pathway to stability and security. It has been an honour to serve.”

Mrs. Kimberley Furnish, Deputy Chief of Mission U.S. Embassy Nassau in welcoming the contingent who arrived via U.S. Department of War airlift conveyed that “the United States of America is proud to partner with The Bahamas to bring peace and stability to Haiti. It is a blessing that all personnel have returned home safely, and we thank them for answering the call. We are proud the US Air Force was able to bring them home.”

Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey reiterated “Our deployment with the GSF is a testament of our commitment to regional security and stability. The deployment has not been an easy one, but it has been a mission of purpose, one that affirms our commitment to supporting our international brothers and sisters in need.” The Mission was a success and we are proud of our Officer and Marines.

The Hon Wayne Munroe KC, MP, Minister of National Security expressed his gratitude for their service and noted that the Contingent deployed before Thanksgiving and Christmas demonstrating their commitment to duty, service and the mandate of the Bahamian people. He reaffirmed that The Bahamas will continue to support Haiti through bilateral training, intelligence sharing, and assistance to GSF, noting that another contingent is currently in training and preparing for deployment if deemed necessary by the National Security Council.

During a formal debrief at Defence Headquarters on 16 March 2026, DCDF Captain Natasha Miller and members of the Executive Leadership commended the contingent for their contribution to our commitment towards regional peace, security and stability.

The safe return of the third contingent highlights the RBDF’s readiness to contribute towards international missions while enhancing the professional development of our officers and marines. Participation in operations of this nature continues to strengthen partnerships and reinforce the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s mission of Guarding Our Heritage.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force under Commodore Moxey’s leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we are ensuring that our personnel are thoroughly equipped, trained, and prepared for the full range of operational requirements ranging from maritime security to disaster relief to international peacekeeping.
