The Royal Bahamas Defence Force formally handed over a shipment of disaster relief supplies to the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) during a ceremony held on Monday, 1 December 2025. The event highlighted the enduring partnership and shared commitment between The Bahamas and Jamaica in strengthening regional humanitarian response capabilities.
Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, expressed the importance of supporting a trusted regional partner. He stated, “It is truly an honour and a privilege to be here in Jamaica to support you, our regional partner, and to demonstrate the spirit of solidarity that exists between our two countries and our militaries. The handover of these disaster relief supplies to support the Jamaica Defence Force’s ongoing efforts is but a small token of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s commitment to stand beside you in your time of need.”
The presence of the RBDF fulfils the planning envisioned by the Exercise Event Horizon: a multinational multi-agency and multi-domain exercise aimed at strengthening cooperation and collaboration within the region for maritime safety, security, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Vice Admiral Antonette Wemyss-Gorman, Chief of Defence Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, who expressed gratitude for the continued support and partnership between the two militaries. Attendees were later guided on a tour of the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) units, showcasing the operational capabilities that support regional disaster relief efforts.
The RBDF, under the leadership of Commodore Floyd Moxey, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we remain steadfast in our commitment to humanitarian support, regional cooperation, and strengthening collective resilience across the Caribbean.
