On Sunday, November 27 the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) was alerted to a possible migrant sighting near Cay Sal Bank in a joint effort with Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT).At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, upon conducting aerial surveillance, OPBAT identified a 40ft. Cuban rustic sailing vessel, twenty (20) nautical miles (nm) East-Southeast of Cay Sal. Upon further assessment, migrants found on the cay were supplied with food and water.His Majesty Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Kamalamee under the command of Lieutenant Thomas Thompson was dispatched from the Northern Bahamas to retrieve the migrants and upon arrival, thirteen migrants were apprehended (11 males and 2 females).The migrants will arrive at the Coral Harbour Base today where they will be turned over to the Bahamas Department of Immigration for further processing. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains dedicated to the pursuit of guarding our heritage.
