A group of eight-two (82) proud Bahamian men and women officially began their journey to become Marines after enlisting in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) as part of New Entry 63/32. Their enlistment took place at The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy on board Coral Harbour Base on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The Enlistment marks the start of a life-changing experience for the recruits, who will undergo 20 weeks of intense training designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of protecting and serving the nation. The program is tough, both physically and mentally, but is designed to develop strong character, foster integrity, leadership, discipline, and the skills needed to succeed in military life.

Over the next several months, recruits will be pushed beyond their comfort zones as they adjust to the demands of military culture. But, through hard work, teamwork, and perseverance, they’ll evolve into capable, confident Marines, ready to take their place among the ranks and rates of the Defence Force.

Training Director, Force Chief Petty Officer Dwayne Gibson, Assisting Director Kemberly Bain and Training Warrant Officer, Force Chief Petty Officer Oral Wood, welcomed the recruits with words of encouragement and support, setting the tone for what lies ahead. Their message was clear: this is the beginning of something greater than themselves and a chance to serve with pride, honour, and purpose.

Commander Byron Brown, Commanding Officer The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy emphasized that the recruits have signed up and subsequently selected military training that is much more intense than anything they have experienced before. He referenced life at sea, the RBDF’s current deployment to Haiti and our hurricane response efforts as just a few of the duties and responsibilities that New Entry training will prepare recruits for.

Transitioning from civilian life is no easy task, but it’s one the RBDF takes seriously. The training staff is committed to guiding each recruit through this process, helping them build the mindset and values that define a Marine: resilience, commitment, and a deep sense of duty to the country.

As these 82 individuals begin this new chapter, their families, friends, and communities can take pride in their decision to serve. They are not only stepping into uniform, they are stepping up to serve their country.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force under Commodore Moxey’s leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we remain steadfast in our commitment to grow our manpower and capabilities ensuring that we remain mission-ready and fully equipped to protect the sovereignty of The Bahamas.
