ANNUAL POST-INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

Coral Harbour Base was filled with pride, spirit, and pageantry today as the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) hosted its Annual Post-Independence Celebration under the national theme, “United in Faith, Steadfast in Duty: A People’s Force for Heritage and Honour”. The event marked another cherished opportunity for members of the Force to reflect on the nation’s legacy, honour its leaders, and celebrate the journey of a proud, sovereign Bahamas.

Distinguished guests in attendance included the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Her Excellency Dame Cynthia Pratt; the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Honourable Philip Davis; the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs Bridgette Hepburn; and Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey. Their presence added honour and dignity to the day’s proceedings.

The event commenced with a prayer of thanksgiving and the singing of the National Anthem, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to God and country. Prime Minister Davis delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the nation’s fifty-two-year journey and highlighting the significant milestones achieved under the banner of unity. He commended Commodore Moxey on his recent recognition as a Companion of the Order of Distinction in the 2025 National Honours, as well as other veterans and retirees who were also acknowledged for their service.

During his remarks, the Prime Minister reiterated his administration’s commitment to national development through Vision 2040, a long-term, non-partisan roadmap designed to ensure sustainable growth and security for future generations. He specifically highlighted the role of the RBDF in safeguarding national sovereignty, outlining the government’s historic investments in operational capabilities and youth empowerment through programmes like the National Youth Guard.

Following the official address, the celebration continued with the ceremonial cutting of the cake. Her Excellency Dame Cynthia Pratt gave three cheers in honour of the nation’s continued progress, prompting a jubilant atmosphere as marines, veterans, and special guests shared in fellowship. All, with music performed by a Combined Law Enforcement Band, enjoyed good food and lively entertainment.

The event concluded with a spirited Junkanoo rush-out, bringing colour, rhythm, and cultural pride to the closing moments of the celebration.

As the sun set over Coral Harbour, the Force stood united in its purpose, steadfast in duty, and deeply proud to be a part of a people’s heritage and honour.
