On January 22, 2025, the Bahamas Maritime and Military Academy (BMMA) held an initial meeting with Mr. Andrew Cawley, Chief Executive Officer of Southpoint Education International and regional representative of Edinburgh Napier University. This landmark meeting signifies a critical step in advancing the training and development initiatives of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF).
Discussions during the meeting focused on opportunities for collaboration in education, training, and professional development aimed at enhancing the academic and technical programs of the RBDF. Mr. Cawley shared insights into Edinburgh Napier University’s robust offerings and highlighted areas of potential alignment to support maritime and military excellence.
Commander Dr. Origin Deleveaux, President of the BMMA, provided remarks on the academy’s vision and its transformative role in aligning the RBDF with international standards. He emphasized the strategic importance of education in equipping personnel with the skills necessary for professional growth and operational excellence.
As part of the visit, a courtesy call was made to Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Glenn McPhee, who warmly welcomed Mr. Cawley and reaffirmed the RBDF’s commitment to partnerships that strengthen its capabilities.
The key objective of the meeting was to outline the framework for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between BMMA and Edinburgh Napier University. Discussions also centered on aligning strategic goals and enabling RBDF personnel to gain cutting-edge knowledge and skills critical for success in the maritime and military domains.

This initial engagement sets the stage for a promising collaboration between the two institutions, one that holds great potential for furthering the professional competencies of RBDF personnel and fostering a culture of academic and operational excellence.
