The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), Bahamas National Unmanned Systems (BAHNUS) Academy certified twenty-two (22) participants upon completion of the Unmanned Systems Program on June 13, 2025, at Coral Harbour Base. Among those certified were members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police Force, Bahamas Department of Corrections, and Bahamas Immigration. Additionally, RBDF personnel were also recognized as certified drone instructors.
The Honourable Wayne R. Munroe, K.C., Minister of National Security, addressed the graduates and gave brief remarks where he praised the efforts of the RBDF and all supporting agencies in pursuing excellence through drone-based systems, noting that such efforts are vital in protecting the nation’s borders, responding to emergencies, and strengthening public safety across The Bahamas.
Additional remarks were made by Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, who expressed his pride in the graduates and instructors for their dedication to the evolving landscape of security and reconnaissance. Captain Carlon Bethell, Deputy Commander Defence Force and Director of the BAHNUS Academy, commended the efforts of all participants and instructors, underscoring the vision of BAHNUS to foster stakeholder partnerships that advance innovation and safety. He reinforced the Academy’s mission to promote awareness, adopt cutting-edge drone practices, and instill a culture of safety and operational excellence.
The program and its successful execution reflect the strategic vision of the Heads of National Military/Law Enforcement Agencies (HONLEA), in partnership with the National Crime Intelligence Agency (NCIA), to maintain the highest standards in unmanned systems operations. This includes enhancing interoperability, communication, and risk assessment practices across all military and law enforcement entities operating within The Bahamas.
