The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) proudly announces that Chief Petty Officers Michael Wring and Shantell Braynen have successfully completed the prestigious U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (NESA) training. Their accomplishment marks a significant milestone in their professional development and enhances the RBDF’s leadership capabilities.
The U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy is renowned for providing senior enlisted leaders with advanced education in communication, leadership, management, national security affairs, and physical fitness. This rigorous program is designed to prepare senior enlisted leaders for critical roles, particularly as the U.S. military readies itself for potential future conflicts.
Chief Petty Officers Wring and Braynen embarked on their training journey on May 27, 2024, starting with a comprehensive distance learning component. This phase included interactive class sessions, extensive reading, research papers, lectures, and dynamic discussions, all aimed at honing their analytical and leadership skills.
Their journey continued with an in-residence segment at the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, located at the Center for War Gaming, Naval War College, U.S. Navy Base Newport, Rhode Island. From July 10, 2024, they engaged in an intensive program that featured leadership training modules such as “Get Real or Get Better” and “Warrior Toughness.” The curriculum emphasized understanding diverse leadership styles, bridging generational communication gaps, and fostering effective mentorship. Participants developed critical skills in handling meetings, addressing disruptors, and empathizing with their teams to build stronger, more cohesive units. Physical endurance and teamwork were also key components, highlighted through challenges like a 3-mile perimeter run, a 5-mile wave run, and team competitions. A field trip to the USS Constitution in Charlestown, Boston, provided historical context and a deeper appreciation for naval heritage and modern advancements.
As a result of their exemplary performance and dedication, Chief Petty Officers Wring and Braynen have been officially appointed and pinned as Chief Petty Officers in the U.S. Navy. Furthermore, the City of Newport has honored their achievement with a proclamation issued by Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong, designating August 2, 2024, as Senior Enlisted Class 275 International Student Day.
The training has not only refined their leadership and communication skills but has also fostered valuable international networking and collaboration. The insights gained will significantly benefit the RBDF, preparing them to address current and future challenges with enhanced strategic foresight and operational effectiveness.
The RBDF congratulates Chief Petty Officers Michael Wring and Shantell Braynen on their remarkable accomplishment and looks forward to their continued contributions in strengthening the force.
