The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) joined in the celebration of the successful graduation of sixty-three (63) members of the National Youth Guard’s Cohort 3 at a ceremony held on November 4 at the Baha Mar Resort’s Convention Center.
The 63 graduates, who were challenged by 16 weeks of rigorous training, are successfully complete, are now equipped to assist in times of natural disasters and national emergencies and are officially inducted as National Youth Guards.
Under the direction of Program Coordinator Captain Sonia Miller, the cadets underwent intensive training at HMBS Coral Harbour, preparing them to tackle real-world situations with skills in first aid, disaster preparedness, workforce readiness, and vocational training.
The program was supported by a range of agency partners, including the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Branch, the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, the Bahamas National Trust, and other key organizations.
During the graduation ceremony, several cadets were recognized for their exemplary performance. NYG Cadet Jamal Miller and NYG Cadet Jacquell Miller were awarded Best Male and Best Female Cadet, respectively. The Most Improved Awards were presented to Tavern Rolle and Leann Woodside, while Instructor Awards were given to Anthony Smith and Chitara John in acknowledgment of their dedication and mentorship.
Prime Minister Brave Davis addressed the attendees, emphasizing his commitment to empowering Bahamian youth and the significance of programs like the National Youth Guard in building a more resilient nation. Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe also commended the graduating class, acknowledging their hard work and dedication required to complete the program.
The RBDF takes pride in its dedication to youth development, being involved in structured programs such as the RBDF Rangers and the NEXGEN Young Men Mentorship Program.
The success of these initiatives underscores the Defence Force’s commitment to investing in the nation’s youth, who represent the future leaders and guardians of Bahamian heritage. By fostering discipline, commitment and leadership, the RBDF aims to create responsible citizens equipped with skills that benefit society and protect the country’s legacy.
Guided by the ethos of “The Pursuit of Excellence in Guarding Our Heritage,” the RBDF, under Commander Defence Force Commodore Raymond E. King, is devoted to national development and continuously engaged in impactful youth programs. This commitment reflects the Defence Force’s dedication to its role in developing the next generation of leaders—responsible and equipped to safeguard the nation.
