Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King attended the historic Return of the Lucayan Remains Ceremony held in Rawson Square, Downtown Nassau on October 29, 2024.
The ceremony marked the significant return of the Lucayan remains to their homeland, underscoring the invaluable role these artifacts play in preserving and honoring the rich history of The Bahamas.
The momentous event saw the attendance of distinguished guests, including the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, The Honorable Philip Davis KC, and the Minister of National Security, The Honorable Wayne Munroe KC.
To commemorate this occasion, members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force performed a military reenactment, showcasing traditional customs and paying homage to the nation’s heritage.
Additionally, a fitness display was presented by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers with the instructors leading the demonstration to highlight physical preparedness and discipline. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Band and Ceremonial Branch of the Administration Department also delivered stirring performances, adding to the cultural and historical significance of the event.
Following the ceremony, Commodore King joined Prime Minister Davis and Minister Munroe in viewing the Lucayan remains and greeting students from various schools, who gathered to witness and engage with this tribute to Bahamian history.
Under the guidance of Commander Defence Force, Commodore King, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains dedicated to supporting cultural heritage initiatives that celebrate and honor the nation’s proud legacy.
