CRISIS AND RISK DISASTER MANAGEMENT EXPO

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) successfully hosted its first-ever Disaster Preparedness Expo at Coral Harbour Base on 29 May 2025, underscoring its commitment to national readiness ahead of the 2025 hurricane season, which officially begins on June 1st of each year.

The event brought together key agencies and stakeholders, including the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Authority, the RBDF’s Sick Bay, and the Firefighting Department—who participated as guests, presenters, and responders. Their involvement highlighted the importance of cross-agency collaboration and internal unit coordination in preparing for natural disasters.

The expo featured simulated emergency response exercises, hurricane readiness drills, and critical discussions aimed at enhancing disaster response protocols. The primary objective was to assess task force preparedness and to ensure that all relevant units are fully trained and equipped to respond swiftly and effectively to national emergencies.

This inaugural expo marks a proactive step towards strengthening The Bahamas’ disaster risk management framework and will serve as a foundation for continued joint training, interagency coordination, and national resilience.

The RBDF intends to make this an annual initiative as part of its broader mandate to protect and serve the nation during times of crisis.
