Honouring our Trail Blazers

Captain Natasha Deborah Miller CD, has served more than 33 years in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force breaking barriers — and her record speaks for itself.

She was the first female to earn a Bridge Watching Certificate. The first female Executive Officer on a 60m craft. The first female to hold the post of Deputy Commander Defence Force. In 2023, she made history as one of the first females promoted to the rank of Captains in the RBDF.

Her leadership reaches all across the Force. In November 2025, she led a high-level strategic mission to Rhode Island, meeting with senior U.S. military officials to strengthen the 20-year State Partnership Program and advance the modernization of RBDF personnel systems. She also represented the Force at The Bahamas Diplomatic Week 2025, where she engaged with international security leaders including the interim head of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti.

Her service extends into the community as well. Under her leadership, the Force Inspectorate Office donated critical medical supplies to the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, nearly doubling accessibility for patients undergoing chemotherapy. All of this, in addition to serving as a member of The Bahamas Basketball Federation while working closely with the Men’s National team.

Most recently, she was formally recognized during Women in Law and Order Week for her significant contributions to the national development of The Bahamas. In her own words: “This appointment is a moment that reinforces the importance of inclusivity and recognizes the contributions of women in military leadership.”

Her awards include The Bahamas Order of Distinction, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, the RBDF Meritorious Service Medal, RBDF Distinguished Service Medal the RBDF Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, and the Minister of National Security Commendation.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force under Commodore Moxey’s leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, in keeping with the theme of International Women’s Day earlier this month, we celebrate Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Natasha Miller CD.
