Weeks have gone by since Hurricane Joaquin left the southern Bahama Islands in a state of disrepair. However, relief efforts continue on. Defence Force Marines which were deployed to the islands of Acklins, Long Island, San Salvador, Crooked Island and Rum Cay are currently assisting locals with the repair of buildings throughout the various communities and are pumping private wells to aid in the supply of clean water.
Marines have also been assisting with repairing roofs of airports and schools. Properties and roadways are being cleared away of debris and homes and other buildings are in a state of reparation.Defence Force personnel are working hard towards helping our southern islands return to a state of normalcy.
