Member of the Executive Council of the Governor General’s Youth Award (GGYA) programme paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King at Defence Headquarters, John F. Kennedy Drive on Tuesday, 15 March 2022.The Venerable James Palacious, Chairman of the GGYA Management Council and Mrs. Jacquetta Maycock, GGYA National Director sat and spoke with Commodore King, where they discussed matters which were mutually beneficial to their organizations. Also in attendance was Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Shonedel Pinder, Aide de camp and former Ranger Director, Lieutenant Commander Delvonne Duncombe and a team of Defence Force marines who have achieved the Gold Award, (the highest international award through the GGYA programme) and continue to lend assistance to the youth programme.During the visit, both organizations acknowledged the favorable working relationship over the years and exchanged pleasantries as tokens of goodwill.Chairman Palacious highlighted in his brief remarks, the importance of a united goal in providing positive avenues for our nation’s youth.“We are all drawing from the same pool of young people and these are all our kids. What we put in them is what we’re going to get back.”In agreement, National Director Maycock also mentioned that they are constantly looking for other programmes, groups and clubs focused on the country’s youth.“Partnerships will bring forth greater fruit, so we’re not competing for young people. We just want to seek ways to further build our partnerships to enhance the avenues that our youth are already engaged with and recognize them for the work they may already be doing in their communities.”Commodore King expressed his appreciation for their shared commitment to the youth.“We are truly a blessed nation to have strategic youth programs to offer much needed structure to so many of our young people and so building these sorts of relationships and partnerships is definitely beneficial.”As a part of its corporate responsibility, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force is dedicated to developing the future leaders of our country, as a part of its mandate to – Guard Our Heritage.(RBDF Photos by Able Seaman Michael Turner II)
