The boarding team from HMBS Durward Knowles assisted the US Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Northland with disembarking Haitian migrants at Matthew Town, Inagua earlier today.
As part of a joint maritime interdiction effort between the Defence Force, Operation Turks and
Caicos (OPBAT) and the US Coast Guard, the USCG Cutter Northland intercepted 120 migrants
aboard a Haitian sloop south of Acklins early Sunday morning.
HMBS Durward Knowles had also intercepted another Haitian sloop an hour earlier with 42
migrants on board approximately 40 miles east of Ragged Island.
A total of 162 migrants were handed over to Immigration authorities in Inagua including one
migrant suspected of possessing a quantity narcotic substance on his person. The suspected
migrant, along with the substance was handed over to Police officials for further investigation.
