The HMBS Flamingo Memorial Committee led by Commander Andrew Bowe paid a courtesy call to the Governor General of The Bahamas, Her Excellency the Most Honorable Dame Cynthia Pratt at Government House on April 10, 2025.

The visit served as both a tribute and insight into their mission to preserve the legacy of the brave marines lost aboard HMBS Flamingo. Also present during the visit was Permanent Secretary to the Governor General, Mr. Jack Thompson.

Her Excellency was presented with a commemorative pin symbolizing the remembrance for the marines who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on May 10, 1980. The pin, a token of honor and national gratitude, reflects the country’s deep appreciation for their service.

The Committee highlighted several key milestones achieved over the past four years, including the successful campaign to have the fallen marines declared national heroes, the engraving of their names on the Cenotaph at Rawson Square, and a historic proclamation by Parliament recognizing their heroism.

Her Excellency commended the Committee for its dedication and emphasized the importance of national remembrance and unity, especially for those who gave their lives defending the sovereignty of The Bahamas.

The committee’s ongoing efforts ensure that the legacy of the HMBS Flamingo and its fallen crew remains a proud and permanent part of Bahamian history.
