On Saturday, 05 April, 2025, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), in coordination with the United States Coast Guard (USCG), received intelligence regarding a missing mariner. The individual was last seen aboard a 20-foot 1994 Century 2000 vessel, white with green trim, powered by a 200HP Yamaha outboard engine. The vessel had departed West Palm Beach, Florida, en route to Miami, with intended travel continuing to Bimini and then onward to New Providence.
Upon receiving the report, the RBDF Command Center promptly dispatched surface assets, while the USCG deployed aerial support to assist in the joint search and rescue effort. Extensive search operations were conducted; however, no sightings were initially reported.
On April 07, 2025, the missing mariner was located by the USCG, found clinging to his capsized vessel. He was safely recovered and handed over to RBDF personnel. He was then transported back to the Bahamas for further care.
Under Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King’s leadership, the Defence Force ensures personnel are equipped, trained, and prepared for maritime security, disaster relief, and peacekeeping. This extends to domestic and regional operations, fulfilling our responsibilities with professionalism and preparedness.
