The Royal Bahamas Defence Force welcomes the newest addition to the officer corps, Midshipman Jamon King who recently completed the Initial Officer Training Program (IOTP) at the Caribbean Military Academy in New Castle St. Andrew, Jamaica.
The forty five-week course, which commenced on May 5, 2024, exposed and trained the officer candidates on military service and competencies, leadership development, and low-level combat operations. The course, that is divided into three terms consist of a junior, intermediate, and senior phase, is specifically designed to mold and foster adequate skills needed for effective leadership and overall training.
Midshipman King during the IOTP’s Commencement Exercise on April 17, 2025, was awarded the Top International Student Award and the International Achievement Award, which is awarded to the overseas officer cadet achieving the best overall results in Military and Academic Studies during the initial program.
On Tuesday 6 May 2025, Midshipman King was officially welcomed back on board HMBS Coral Harbour by Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Glenn McPhee, and presented with a copy of the book Naval Leadership: Voices of Experience by Karel Montor.
