In a joint effort between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Cuban Border Guard, approximately one hundred and twenty-five (125) suspected migrants and three (3) Cuban refugees were apprehended by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) on Saturday 12 March 2022.While on patrol, the joint effort resulted in the US Coast Guard cutter, USCGC Tahoma apprehending the Haitian migrants on behalf of the Defence Force in Bahamian waters, just off Cay Sal and retrieving the 3 Cubans from Anguilla Cay. Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Leon Livingston Smith under the command of Senior Lieutenant Ricardo McQueen is scheduled to rendezvous with the US Coast Guard cutter on Sunday, 13 March 2022 to conduct a handover and transport the migrants to Coral Harbour Base in New Providence, where they will be turned over to the relevant authorities.
