The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) proudly participated in the graduation ceremony of the Bahamas National Youth Guard’s (NYG) Cohort 4—the largest intake since the program’s inception in 2023. Held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Baha Mar Ballroom, Cable Beach, the event marked a significant milestone in national youth development.
A total of 104 young Bahamians (59 males and 45 females) successfully completed 14 weeks of rigorous training rooted in the NYG’s core principles of service, preparedness, and response. These cadets are now fully equipped to assist during natural disasters and national emergencies and are formally inducted as National Youth Guards.
Under the leadership of Program Coordinator, Captain Sonia Miller, training was conducted at HMBS Coral Harbour and supported by nearly 15 partnering agencies. These partners, including the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Branch, Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, and the Bahamas National Trust, delivered instruction in areas such as first aid, disaster management, workforce readiness, and vocational skills.
Several cadets were recognized for outstanding performance during the ceremony:
• Best Male Cadet – Solomon John
• Best Female Cadet – Kyarshana Missick
• Instructor’s Award (Male) – Akeem Mortimer
• Instructor’s Award (Female) – Sharissa Mackey
• Most Improved Male Cadet – Stefon Walkes
• Most Improved Female Cadet – Harriel Davis
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and Acting Minister of National Security, the Hon. Mario Bowleg were in attendance, both commending the cadets for their dedication and the program’s role in building a more resilient Bahamas.
The RBDF remains deeply committed to youth empowerment through structured initiatives understanding that these efforts are integral to shaping future leaders grounded in discipline, leadership, and national pride.
Guided by the motto “The Pursuit of Excellence in Guarding Our Heritage,” the RBDF, under the leadership of Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey, extends heartfelt congratulations to all graduates of Cohort 4 and celebrates their readiness to serve the nation.
